Kickstart your career in sustainability! The Ambassador role combines environmental knowledge and passion, community engagement, and waste measurement into a diverse work experience opportunity. This contract position involves:
Program Delivery & Support
- Speak with and record residential homeowners’ responses about food waste diversion. You’ll be engaging homeowners in conversations about better ways to manage organic materials, and why they should care about what lands in the landfill.
- Coordinate and participate in community marketing events and outreach games to capture community attention and inform residents about sustainability.
- Assist in preparing, delivering, and coordinating waste audits and lid lift audits.
- Present audit findings to school groups and clubs, and educate the community via social media messaging.
Qualifications
- Student or graduate of environmental sciences or a similar field
- Positive nature and curiosity about what gets thrown away and where waste ends up
- Comfortable talking to people – you will need to put yourself out there!
- Available weekdays, some evenings and weekends
- Excellent understanding of the environment and urban sustainability, along with good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Google docs; access to a computer with these programs
Additional Requirements
- Organized, self-motivated, able to work remotely and independently
- Current and valid driver’s license, daily access to a vehicle, and a cell phone
- Training in First Aid, WHMIS and Community Based Social Marketing are assets
